With a thriving group of young families settling down and growing in the San Juan Islands, the education and youth resource options on Orcas Island have blossomed over the years. Families have their choice of the Orcas Island Public School system, or a variety of private schools to choose from. There is also a strong homeschool presence on Orcas, as well as options for remote education. All children are different, and there is a plethora of diverse options to best meet each family’s different needs. They say it takes a village, and Orcas Island is a strong community to raise a family in.

The Orcas Island School District has serves approximately 800 students in grades K-12 from throughout our state, and offers an academic curriculum that is aligned with the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements. Farm to Cafeteria Program

Orcas Island is located off the coast of Washington State in the San Juan Islands.  We have had an active and vibrant farm to cafeteria program since 2005 which includes our newly expanded garden, our K-8 Farm to Classroom, and fresh scratch-cooked meals in the school cafeteria using locally grown organic produce and meats. Orcas Island F.E.A.S.T. Program

The new F.E.A.S.T. program formed in 2020 actively engages young adults in the hands-on experiences that teach them how to understand, grow, harvest, reap and prepare foods that will sustain them in good times and bad, and ensure that they will have the tools to thrive. Orcas Montessori School

Founded in 1988, Orcas Montessori School on Orcas Island offers a dynamic learning environment for preschoolers and kindergartners based on the educational philosophy and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori.  Dr. Montessori, Italy’s first female physician and a pioneer in childhood education, convened her first classroom in Rome in 1907.  Her philosophy and methods have been tested for over 100 years. Four Winds Westward Ho

Four Winds Westward Ho is a private, non-profit summer camp founded in 1927. We offer an incredible camp experience for boys and girls ages 8-16 during three sessions each summer.
