With a thriving group of young families settling down and growing in the San Juan Islands, the education and youth resource options on Orcas Island have blossomed over the years. Families have their choice of the Orcas Island Public School system, or a variety of private schools to choose from. There is also a strong homeschool presence on Orcas, as well as options for remote education. All children are different, and there is a plethora of diverse options to best meet each family’s different needs. They say it takes a village, and Orcas Island is a strong community to raise a family in.

Orcas Montessori School

Founded in 1988, Orcas Montessori School on Orcas Island offers a dynamic learning environment for preschoolers and kindergartners based on the educational philosophy and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori.  Dr. Montessori, Italy’s first female physician and a pioneer in childhood education, convened her first classroom in Rome in 1907.  Her philosophy and methods have been tested for over 100 years.
