The youth of Orcas Island is a group that is consistently growing and flourishing. With many people with young children growing their families on Orcas, the need for resources and activities for this age group has continued to grow with the community. This need has been met with a variety of organizations and schools that provide educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of the community on Orcas. Island living is a not a “one size fits all” situation, and the educational resources available to families reflect this island philosophy.

The Funhouse

Orcas Island is located off the coast of Washington State in the San Juan Islands.  We have had an active and vibrant farm to cafeteria program since 2005 which includes our newly expanded garden, our K-8 Farm to Classroom, and fresh scratch-cooked meals in the school cafeteria using locally grown organic produce and meats. Orcas Montessori School

Founded in 1988, Orcas Montessori School on Orcas Island offers a dynamic learning environment for preschoolers and kindergartners based on the educational philosophy and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori.  Dr. Montessori, Italy’s first female physician and a pioneer in childhood education, convened her first classroom in Rome in 1907.  Her philosophy and methods have been tested for over 100 years. Four Winds Westward Ho

Four Winds Westward Ho is a private, non-profit summer camp founded in 1927. We offer an incredible camp experience for boys and girls ages 8-16 during three sessions each summer.
